Student Orientation

Orientation consists of two parts, Academic Orientation (mandatory) and Social Orientation (optional).

Academic Orientation We want you to have a smooth transition to university life and have planned this orientation to help you succeed at York. We will introduce you to the academic services, social activities, recreational activities and facilities available to you, both at Bethune and throughout the university. We want to help you make connections. We want you to feel at home.

Academic orientation is geared to your major. To register (once you've created your Passport York account),
click on the appropriate link:

Tuesday Aug 28, 9:30- 5 pm Applied Biotechnology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, Environmental Biology
Wednesday Aug 29, 9:30-5 pm Applied Math, Biophysics, Chemistry, Computational Math, Environmental Science, Geography, Mathematics, Math for Commerce, Math for Education, Physics & Astronomy, Science & Technology Studies, Statistics, Undecided Majors
Thursday Aug 30, 9:30-5 pm Computer Science, Computer Security, Digital Media, Earth and Atmospheric Science, Engineering, Space Science

Location Lassonde Building, Lecture Hall A (building 19 on campus map)
Cost All sessions are free (lunch is included). However, you will be responsible for parking.

Welcome BBQ Immediately after each orientation there will be a BBQ organized by Bethune College Council (BCC). It will help you to get to know other students in your major and also introduce you to the BCC.


Residence Move-In Day is August 31, for new students. More info here.

Social Orientation (DragonWeek 2012) starts Friday Aug 31. and continues until Sunday Sept 9.

Parents Orientation

Bethune College Parents Orientation is on Friday Aug 31, 12:30 pm in Bethune College room 320, starting with a light lunch. It will introduce you to the college system and the academic services, social activities, recreational activities and facilities available to your son/daughter in the college.To register click here.

On the same day York hosts a university-wide Parents Orientation as well. We recommend that you attend the morning university-wide orientation session and then attend the Bethune College Parents Orientation in the afternoon.
